Autumn has certainly been a busy season for us. Unfortunately, we didn’t see a much needed early break for the season, so feeding sheep has become an unavoidable pastime. I have been very thankful for our feed out cart and good containment yard setups which have made feeding a breeze. A lot of data collection has happened with shearing, classing, pregnancy and muscle and fat scanning all taking place in the last couple of months. We have a team of 180 rams to pick a sale team from and reduced our young ewe flock by about 40%. Whilst we wouldn’t normally class this early, I see it as a good opportunity to not only reduce the number of passenger animals on the farm, but also get a good picture of how the flock is shaping up. Thankfully early June saw our farm receive between 30 – 40mls of rain bringing a tinge of green to the landscape. Alison Henderson - Stud Manager Baderloo/Hendowie Poll Merinos
